5 Day Devotional Week of March 2
Here's a 5-day Bible reading plan and devotional guide based sermon from Sunday March 2.
Day 1: The Servant's Call
Reading: Mark 1:1-8, Isaiah 42:1-7
Devotional: As we begin our journey through Mark's Gospel, we're immediately introduced to John the Baptist - a unique servant of God preparing the way for Jesus. Like John, we too are called to be "a voice crying out in the wilderness." God has uniquely equipped each of us for service, just as He did John. Reflect on 1 Peter 2:9 - "But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his possession, so that you may proclaim the praises of the one who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light." How has God uniquely called and equipped you? In what ways can you use your gifts to prepare the way for others to encounter Jesus?
Day 2: The Power of Repentance
Reading: Mark 1:4-5, Acts 2:37-41
Devotional: John's message was one of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. This call to turn away from sin and turn towards God is at the heart of the Gospel. It's not about religious rituals, but about a heart transformation that leads to a new direction in life. Consider the jailer's question in Acts 16:30 - "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?" The answer remains the same: believe in the Lord Jesus. Take time today to examine your heart. Are there areas where you need to repent and turn back to God? Remember, repentance is not just feeling sorry, but actively changing direction to align with God's will.
Day 3: The Spirit's Presence
Reading: Mark 1:9-11, John 14:15-17
Devotional: At Jesus' baptism, we see a beautiful picture of the Trinity - the Father speaks, the Son is baptized, and the Spirit descends like a dove. This marks the beginning of Jesus' public ministry, empowered by the Holy Spirit. As followers of Christ, we too have been given the gift of the Holy Spirit. Reflect on Jesus' words in John 3:5 - "Truly I tell you, unless someone is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God." How aware are you of the Spirit's presence in your daily life? Ask God to help you be more attuned to the Spirit's guidance and empowerment as you seek to serve Him.
Day 4: Facing Temptation
Reading: Mark 1:12-13, Hebrews 4:14-16
Devotional: Immediately after His baptism, Jesus is led into the wilderness to be tempted. This reminds us that even as we commit our lives to God, we will face trials and temptations. But we don't face them alone. Hebrews 4:15 tells us that Jesus was "tempted in every way as we are, yet without sin." When you face temptation or trials, remember that Jesus understands and that His Spirit is with you. How can you lean on God's strength when facing your own "wilderness" experiences? Take time to pray for God's help in your areas of weakness.
Day 5: Proclaiming the Good News
Reading: Mark 1:14-15, Romans 10:14-15
Devotional: As Jesus begins His ministry, He proclaims, "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!" This message of hope and salvation is at the core of our faith. As Christ's followers, we are called to be bearers of this good news. Romans 10:15 says, "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news." Consider the unique opportunities God has given you to share His love and truth with others. Who in your life needs to hear the hope of the Gospel? Ask God for courage and wisdom to be His messenger in your everyday interactions.
